Coffee – Good for your health?

Many of us rely on coffee to get us going in the morning to perk us up in the afternoon or to energize us for a meeting. So go ahead and have a cup of coffee. It may be much healthier than you may think.
Coffee is the most consumed beverage in the world and no matter where you go coffee is usually available. Yet, until recently there's been very little research on the effects of coffee on our health. However, researchers are waking up to the attributes of coffee and studies have been conducted on the possible health benefits. Studies in Italy have shown that coffee, unlike tea and cocoa, contain many antioxidants which may prevent some diseases.
So, is caffeine good or bad for us? Many people have problems sleeping after consuming coffee before bedtime, which they consider bad. While others who drink coffee feel it gives them an increase in energy, which they consider good. In some people coffee increases their heart rate and there are others who feel that the benefits of caffeine in coffee can significantly lower the risk of Alzheimer’s. Clinical research in China claims that coffee helps to prevent Parkinson’s disease while Japanese researchers claim that people who drink more than one cup of coffee a day are less likely to develop liver cancer. Is this another fallacy? These claims have yet to be proven. While large quantities of daily coffee won’t produce any benefits moderate cups of coffee could be beneficial.
Harvard Medical School completed a study in 2004 that strongly suggest coffee has preventative qualities for Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. The authors found an association between coffee consumption and Type 2 diabetes after adjustment for age, body mass index and other risk factors. Total caffeine intake from coffee and other sources was said to significantly lower risk for diabetes in both men and women.
People around the world have been enjoying coffee for centuries and while there are no hard facts on its health benefits, nothing can beat the sweet aroma of a brewed cup of coffee morning noon or night. So go ahead! Have a cup of delicious coffee!
Coffee, organically grown may have more health benefits than we think.
