My Natural Journey
About Page Welcome to my new blog about my natural journey through life with and without horses. It is a work in progress, so please bear with me.
Putting the Relationship First
by Patty Miller

(Excerpt from my blog): I’ve come to the conclusion that we’re either born with the “horse gene” or we’re not. If you’re lucky enough to be born with it, it will never go away. I’m one of the lucky ones. Ever since I can remember, I’ve loved horses. Every Christmas I asked for one. My parents thought it was just a “phase” I would eventually outgrow. My parents were not born with the “horse gene”. They just never understood.

I read every horse book I could get my hands on. I watched the Triple Crown Races on tv. My mom’s broom magically turned into my trusted steed every time it was in my hands. My best friend and I each had little metal recipe boxes where we kept our recipe cards indexed in alphabetical order with every horse we “owned” and raced. Each card had complete details about each horse: name, age, breed, coloring, sire, dam, jockey, etc. We “raced” our bicycles up and down the streets and the alleyway. We bought, sold, and traded horses on a continual basis. We also had our “air horses”. Who needed props? Now, do you call that a “phase”? This went on for years!! Sorry mom and dad, either you just weren’t paying attention, or you just didn’t want to “get it”.

I finally bought my own horse once I was living on my own and had a job.
