Goal-Setting - Keep It Simple

Goal-Setting - Keep It Simple...

Goal-Setting is one of the most basic ways to achieve your dreams.

We all have a picture in our minds about what we want in life. But actually

transferring those pictures into words and writing it down as goals can be quite

difficult. To a lot of us, it means we really have to stop and think about what it

actually is that we want. The general dream is not specific enough as it doesn't

contain the steps in order to reach our goals.

I have been reading a number of articles about goal-setting and have worked out how to set goals in a week.

Goal-Setting - Day 1

"The big Picture" you have in your head needs to be broken down into 3 areas.

Health - what does 'good health' mean to you?

Finance - What would you like to earn in the next 12 months, in 24 months in 60

      months?

Family - What is the type of lifestyle you would like your family to lead?

Goal-Setting - Day 2

Set a timer for 30 or 60 seconds and quickly think about your 3 most urgent goals

in your life at this moment. Compare them with Day 1's goals. Are they the same or

different? How are they different? These goals may be a more accurate account of

what you really want.

Goal-Setting - Day 3

Now you need to actually write down these goals yu've been thinking about for the

last 2 days.

They need to be simple, clear and achievable. Don't use negative words such as

'not', 'no', 'won't', etc.

For example - instead of writing - "I won't go shopping each day", write something

like - " I will only go shopping twice a week".

Goal-Setting - Day 4

You need to set deadlines too.

If you want to lose weight, then target a party or function you have coming up and

that will be your deadline to lose a certain amount of weight.

Or, if you are travelling and want to leave on a certin date, that will be your

target to save money for spending.

If you have an enormous goal, then you need to break it down into achievable steps.

We all are capable of procrastination, so, by setting smaller steps,

procrastination should almost disappear...

Goal-Setting - Day5

Have you tried achieving goals before? If you haven't been successful, what has

stopped you? Jot these things down and then work out ways to overcome them. For

example - do you need support form others when losing weight? Do you need a

lockable piggy-bank so you can't get at your savings? Do you need to unassociate

yourself from negative friends? What new skills do you need to learn?

Goal-Setting - Day 6

Now's the time to make a plan.

Write down your goals. Underneath, write down the series of steps you are going to

undertake in order to reach your goal. Break it down even further into weekly

steps, then daily steps. it's important to get to the daily steps - something easy

to achieve each day. So that means - 3 achievable daily goals - One for Health, One

for Family and One for Finance.

Goal-Setting - Day 7

Before the start of the day, look at the goals you want to achieve that day. Turn

each into a statement which states that you have already achieved it. For example -

"I have learned how to use LinkedIn". Say it out aloud 5 times to keep it in your

mind and then you will be set for the day with your goals firmly in your head.

There are many different methods of Goal-Setting. This account is something that

makes sense to me and is achievable enough for everyone.

I'd be interested to read your comments.
