Marketing with Twitter

Have you heard of the social networking website called Twitter?  To be honest, I have a Twitter account but don't use it efficiently enough to market my business.

So, I thought I would investigate ways of doing so.

With all the information I found, I have had to break it down into 5 posts, So, firstly, I am going to outline how you can start building a large network of friends, clients, associates, and customers using this great tool.

Twitter is a fantastic tool for your IM business.

Many new users have been asking how they can use this site more effectively for
their business since the site has grown enormously into an Internet 'mega monster'
that is well-known globally.

It's important that you understand that internet relationships are completely different from actual, personal relationships. They are based primarily on like, know, and trust.
Many people are reaching out to others through social network websites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and many others.

By using Twitter, you can create your personal or business brand and virtually dominate your market, simply by building a list of followers.

Here are some  ways you can you achieve this.

Marketing with Twitter Step 1

After setting up your Twitter account you need to work on
your profile. Make sure it's clear and concise as you only get 160 characters.
This is what people will read before they decide whether or not they want to follow
you.

Marketing with Twitter Step 2

Now you need to  get ‘followers’.

If you already have business contacts that are already using Twitter, invite them
to follow you. You can also put links in your emails, on your websites and/or blogs
asking people to follow you. Another idea is to put your Twitter url on
your business card, so that you can gather followers offline as well.
Tell everyone you meet about your Twitter page. Make it sound exciting and let them
know that you will be sharing important updates, great tips and information with
them if they follow you. You may find that almost everyone will click the follow
button just to see what you're all about...

Get more Twitter followers by following the Gurus...

Another important task is to search for and follow the ‘gurus’ and the powerful users of Twitter. You can benefit from this as it will give you a bird’s eye view of what they’re doing on Twitter. You can then learn how to improve your own results. Also, by following and observing them, it wiil place you in front of all the people they are in contact with.
You may as well take advantage of people's curiosity. We are curious by nature! We like to see who is following who, so often our links will be clicked in order to check out our followers.
Remember, though, to keep your target market in mind when choosing to follow the ‘gurus’.

Get more Twitter followers by retweeting...

Retweeting means that you take the original twitter message someone else has posted, and rebroadcast that same message to your followers. When doing this, though, you need to make sure that you give credit to the original poster.

At first it may sound like this will only be good for the original tweeter, but retweeting can actually benefit you just as much if not more because;

*  It provides more value to your followers.

You want happy followers, so you need to provide them with quality information.By
retweeting information, you are sharing more content. It's impossible to provide it
all yourself, so by retweeting others' valuable info you may also attract new followers.

* It will benefit your brand.

If you direct your reader to another source if good information that is beneficial
to them, it will increase the amount of trust they have in you..

* It will assist you in building relationships with the original posters.

Retweeting someone else’s content is an act of kindness. Mostly, bloggers will return the favour but don't expect that someone will retweet your content just because you retweet theirs. Keep in mind that it will be done for you eventually at some stage along the way...

Retweeting is all about providing value to your followers so if you want others to retweet your post then you want to make sure that you are providing them with the quality content they feel is worth the retweet.

Disadvantages of Retweeting:-

If used incorrectly, retweeting can hurt your personal brand and future traffic.

Your new followers need to be treated really well. Don't ever send them to inappropriate websites or spam them with too many sales pitches.
You need them to like what you have to say, so they will keep following you. Then when you do recommend something to them you will more likely get the results you are looking for...

I hope my post has helped any newcomers to Twitter to understand it a lot better.
If so, please share and leave a comment.
