Dispelling Outsourcing Myths

I have been in the outsourcing business for quite a number of years, and I can say that I have heard it all. There are times when I go through the pains of explaining the advantages of outsourcing and there are times when I just allow some people to prattle on and not bother to explain the benefits of outsourcing to these people because I know that they would soon take advantage of outsourcing when they can no longer watch their competition "steal" a large portion of their market share.

Some people think that offshore outsourcing is snatching away American jobs. Well, according to a recent study, every single dollar that is used on the work functions to nations like the Philippines, the US economy is known to gain a minimum of 1.12 dollar. The original employer then gets 58 cents, which is the biggest share. The US companies perform thirty percent (30%) of Filipino off shoring; this means that funds return back home as income. Even though the US lost around two million jobs, which was as a result of global trade over the last 20 years, in the last one decade the US has added 35 million new employment opportunities.

With the US technology being at the forefront in the international market, this has given this country a strong edge over the developing countries that handle outsourced work. A large number of work activities that are not turning up during economic recovery have not disappeared through outsourced employees; but through enhanced efficiencies and automation.

Another well known myth that has made the rounds is that there is some sort of stigma attached to outsourcing offshore. This far from being true! Seriously; who will believe this load of hogwash?! Many top multi-nationals have considerable R&D's in countries like the Philippines, India, China and other well known offshore outsourcing countries.

Honestly, it would be nearly impossible to find top companies that are turning up their noses at outsourcing. Most companies outsource a large part of their day to day work functions to offshore outsourced employees. If you are on a quest to find a large company that does not outsource any of their work functions, I wish you luck.

Again, it is very important to understand that a large portion of outsourced tasks are supporting operations. These tasks are not part of the core work functions of US companies. Many outsourced tasks are phone technical support, billing and software coding, HR administration, telemarketing etc

Do not apologise or feel guilty for choosing to take advantage of outsourcing benefits! You are doing nothing wrong. The success of your business lies in the decisions that you make, if you choose to outsource; it is a good decision!
