When You Have no Choice but to Outsource

Figuring out whether or not to outsource certain work functions is one of the many concerns of business owners. I know that it can be a pretty hard decision, but the decision making process is made very simple and clear when outsourcing is the ONLY viable alternative.

There are circumstances where the in-house employees are simply not qualified to perform certain work processes or the in-house employees are already saddled with other responsibilities – what I am trying to say is that there are just times when you have no other option but to outsource.

Here are some examples when large companies have no choice but to outsource:

• You have no choice but to outsource when none of your in-house employees are qualified to perform certain tasks. This happens most times when no member of your staff has the necessary training or skills needed to perform certain tasks. For example, if your company needs experienced telemarketers to promote a new product, there is really no point hiring new employees and renting an office space so that these "telemarketers" can work for a few months out of the whole year – unproductive staff is expensive to any company, no matter how large the company is. Outsourcing is way cheaper than employing full time employees who will only have to work a few months in a year.

• Outsourcing becomes an appealing option when your company needs all employees to focus on core activities but there is a need to carryout some important company research and there is not just enough time to wait for in-house employees to conduct the research. Outsourced research employee can do the following:

- Create list of individuals or companies
- Prepare and email and or mail materials
- Learn software applications
- Obtain the best possible pricing on purchases
- Possible advertising options
- Project management etc

A large workload is most times, a huge factor in outsourcing especially when there are particularly time sensitive projects. Employers and employees most times, have to prioritize the numerous tasks that they are managing. However, there are times when several projects or tasks become quite urgent, and it would be impossible to complete these tasks without outsourcing.

• When you have no choice but to outsource is when you have specific requirements/requests from clients. Depending on the task's complexity, the client may request that a qualified team of experienced employees handle his/her project. These qualifications may be particular training in the use of certain software, work experience, or language speaking skills. Companies that do not have in-house staff that meet the client's specified requests do not have any choice but to seek an outsourcing solution.
