Are You Really Anti Social in Your Social Networking?

I had a good, new friend of mine talk to me about how they felt that people seemed to be disconnecting the more they become connected through technology. When I look around I've seen and heard other express the same sentiment. But, the reason I don't jump on the band wagon is because I believe the complaint is an illusion.

To a large part we are only aware of the frequency we are tuned to or others bring to us. I remember back in the 90's how badly I wanted to have an online relationship with a female. I can remember how I listened in envy the exploits of some of my friends online encounters which were brought to fruition offline. I can remember thinking to myself, "What is wrong with me? Why am I more successful meeting women offline than I am online?"

After sometime it happened. Society started to catch up with internet and I soon started to see woman who I had experienced offline sudden appear online. That's when the realization hit me. The people who were online are the same people who were offline. In some cases, they had found a venue to express themselves in way's they would never express them in public for fear of rejection.   #call9176754321 #newconvo

Two of factors which I believe are fueling this conception of social disconnection are technophobia and information/sensory overload. The source of the technophobia is a by product of humanities resistance and resentment of change. It is also a by product of "Dumb is Cool". Have you ever hear someone say "I'm so computer illiterate" and then grin at you like your are supposed to sympathize? I guess I have some compassion for the person who runs around shouting "I'm an Idiot". But, I want to come off as belittling, because it won't make me look good.

Another example of the "Dumb is Cool" is the "Why do we need all these new fangled gizmos anyway?" attitude. The reason why we need them is because Humanity is on a great adventure and we are continuing to explore new places we have never been on more levels than every before at a rate that has never occured before.

Each morning when I drive downtown to work, I get to see a different world than the one being presented in the video. I see childen walking to school interacting with their classmates. When I go to move my car in the after noon, I see them playing in the school yard. When I drive through the hood, I see boys and girls hanging on the street corners or by certain corner stores.

Wow, I didn't plan on writing this much but I'll continue my exploration tommorrow morning I'd love to hear your comments.
